PEP is not
just a program.
It’s a revolution

Today, the United States has the largest incarcerated population in the world. And although the United States has only 5% of the world’s population, it has 25% of the world’s inmates. In Texas alone, 120,000 people are incarcerated, 95% of whom will eventually be released back into their communities.

Post-release, inequitable access to basic needs, like a job and safe, affordable housing perpetuates the cycle of poverty and crime. That’s where PEP comes in.

Our Story

Established in 2004, the Prison Entrepreneurship Program pioneered an innovative program that united convicted felons with the nation’s top executives, business owners, and entrepreneurs.
For 17 years, PEP has given incarcerated

men the opportunity to lead successful lives that have an exponential impact on their families and their communities.
Moving into the future, PEP is focused on strengthening our curriculum, expanding our technology, and widening the reach of our impact to more prisoners across the state–and eventually the country.

Our Main Focus

Mitigating the challenges facing released inmates by providing them with the sources, skills and professional network needed to overcome reentry barriers.

Mission

At the Prison Entrepreneurship Program, our mission is to unite business executives and inmates through entrepreneurial passion and servant leadership to transform lives, restore families and rebuild communities.

Vision

PEP’s vision is to be an inspired national leader in prisoner reentry by expanding our community of accountability and encouragement until every inmate who is truly committed to change has the choice and the chance to reboot his life.
